July 05, (THEWILL) – Sergio Rico has been moved from intensive care to a regular ward, as the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper continues his recovery from a traumatic brain injury.
As THEWILL previously reported, the 29-year-old Spaniard was admitted to Virgen del Rocio hospital in Seville on May 28, following an accident involving a horse at a local festival. According to a hospital report, Rico had been under close surveillance and monitoring during the five weeks he spent in the ICU.
Despite being in a coma initially, he has since regained consciousness and is now communicating again. Medical and nursing care will continue to be provided by a team of specialists at the hospital.
Rico, who joined PSG permanently in 2020, after a successful loan spell, is a seasoned player with two UEFA Europa League titles under his belt from his hometown club, Sevilla. While his road to recovery is ongoing, the progress he has made signifies positive developments in his condition.
However, the Virgen del Rocio hospital did not provide further details on the specific nature of his injury or the expected timeline for his full recovery. Nevertheless, Rico’s transfer from the ICU to the ward marks a significant step forward in his journey towards regaining health and returning to the sport in an active fashion again.
