PSG Boss Enrique Admits Team Effort Needed To Cover Mbappe Void

May 26, (THEWILL) – Paris St Germain manager Luis Enrique admitted his squad will need to step up following the departure of talisman Kylian Mbappe. The French striker, heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, scored a record 256 goals across seven seasons with the Ligue 1 champions.

Enrique, who coached Mbappe in his final campaign at the Parc des Princes, stated no single player can fill the void left by the 24-year-old’s exit. “There is no substitute for Mbappe, we cannot replace him,” the Spaniard said after PSG’s French Cup triumph. “We will do it through the team and four, five or six signings we can make.”

The former Barcelona boss highlighted the importance of bolstering his ranks during the off-season to meet expectations. “Kylian’s replacement will be the team that, along with the fans and our ambition, try to win everything in the following seasons,” he affirmed. PSG’s priority remains to claim an elusive UEFA Champions League crown after falling short again this term.

Enrique insisted any new arrivals must adapt swiftly to the demands of a big club. “A big challenge for any player who wants to come is that we want to make history and this club will win the Champions League sooner or later,” he stated. “It is difficult, but this team will do it.” The 53-year-old emphasised the lack of an off-season at the elite level, saying: “There is no such thing as a holiday in top-level football.”
