September 30, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria National League (NNL) has confirmed that the 2023/2024 football season will commence on October 28. The opening fixture will see Dakkada FC host 1472 FC, at the Uyo Township Stadium.
The announcement came following the annual general meeting of the NNL held in Jos on Friday. An abridged league format consisting of four conferences – A, B, C and D – was adopted for the upcoming campaign. It was agreed that only stadiums meeting the required NNL facilities criteria will be sanctioned for matches.
The communiqué thanked sponsors, Dekaizen Worldwide Ltd, for providing a £4,400 prize for the eventual league winners. Cash prizes for the top four clubs will be arranged later depending on available funds. It was also agreed that a minimum of 20 security staff must be present for games to go ahead.
Heartland FC, Kano Pillars FC, Sporting Lagos FC and Katsina United FC were confirmed as promoted to the Nigeria Premier League. Meanwhile, the likes of Kogi United, FWC Champions FC, Zamfara United and Green Berets FC were among teams relegated.
The NNL board welcomed recent sponsorship developments and hopes further agreements can be finalised ahead of the new season.
