Buhari Begins 4-Day Visit To Paris

BEVERLY HILLS, May 15, (THEWILL) – President Muhammadu Buhari will this Sunday leave Nigeria for Paris, to begin four days of an official visit.

The Nigerian President will be attending the African Finance Summit that will be holding in the capital city of France.

On the President’s entourage are: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed; Minister of Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo; Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire; National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Babagana Mohammed Monguno (rtd) ; and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.

According to a statement by presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, the Summit, being hosted by President Emmanuel Macron, will have major stakeholders from global financial institutions and world leaders considering the matter of external funding and debt treatment for Africa.

Also, Garba indicated that Buhari would use the opportunity of the trip to hold meetings with the French President and table for strategic discussions the growing insecurity in the Sahel and Lake Chad region.

Macron and Buhari will also be discussing political relations and economic ties between France and Nigeria, as well as climate change and strategies towards checking COVID-19.

Garba said: ”Before returning to Nigeria, President Buhari will receive some key players in the oil and gas sector, engineering and telecommunications, European Council and European Union Representative for Foreign and Security Policy and Commission, and members of the Nigerian community.”
