President Buhari Has Agreed To Sign Petroleum Industry Governance Bill – Ngige

SAN FRANCISCO, December 07, (THEWILL) – President Muhammadu Buhari has agreed to sign the Petroleum Industry Governance Bill (PIGB) into law once it is brought in front of him, Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige has confirmed.

Ngige made this known in an event to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers(NUPENG) declaring that the President is always ready to listen to the grievances of the union.

He promised that the President has his eyes set on making the industry a better one through his decisions.

“He (Buhari) is a president that respects the rule of law and the law of the land. He promised to sign the Petroleum Industry Governance Bill once it is brought to him,” Ngige told the workers.

In his own address, Williams Akporeha, the President of NUPENG, frowned at the the rise of casual workers in oil companies stating that the union will always fight, and stand for better working condition of the members.

“There are enormous challenges confronting our union, most especially with regards to the employers, government and the general public perception of our enormous powers, influence and ever constant solidarity.

“We know that most often many employers are scared of relating with us and this wrong perception is sometimes responsible for the hostile attitude to our efforts in organising their employees,” he said.

The NUPENG President added that his administration is willing to engage in massive public image that will refine, and mend ways with aggrieved stakeholders in the union.
