February 02, (THEWILL) – Mason Greenwood has been released on bail pending further investigation, according to Greater Manchester Police.
As THEWILL reported, on Sunday, the Manchester United forward was detained on charges of rape and assault.
The following day, police were given additional time to question the 20-year-old before he was detained on charges of sexual assault and making threats to kill. The police department has now issued a statement confirming Greenwood’s release on bond.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Greater Manchester Police department said: “A 20-year-old man arrested (on Sunday 30 January 2022) on suspicion of the rape and assault of a woman has been released on bail pending further investigation.”
It does not mean Greenwood will return to football as the player has already been informed that he would not be able to practise or play for Manchester United until further notice, as the club effectively suspended him from the rest of the squad.
Greenwood’s principal sponsor, Nike, has likewise severed their partnership with him.
