Police Prevent Us, Claims Some Miscreants Plan To Hijack Our Protest – NLC

February 27, (THEWILL) – The Borno State Police Commissioner, Mohammed Yusuf, has prevented members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), from joining the nationwide peaceful protests in Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital.

The Chairman of the NLC, Borno State chapter, Comrade Yusuf Inuwa, affirmed this while briefing Journalists at the NLC Secretariat on Tuesday morning.

He said that after all arrangements were made for the peaceful protests over the economic hardships, he received a distress call from the Police Commissioner, who requested his presence at the Police Headquarters in Maiduguri.

Comrade Inuwa mentioned that while he and his SEC members were at the Police Headquarters, the CP informed him that the NLC should not lead the protests, considering the peculiar security situation in the state.

Comrade Inuwa said, ” Police said, there was intelligence reports that some apparent Boko Haram insurgents planned to hijacked the protests due to hunger in the land, as I speak, the EODs team along with my secretary are scanning NUJ Secretariat due to what they claimed.

“The CP said their mandate is seal our secretariat because the Abuja and Lagos Secretariats have been sealed so gentlemen this is situations we found ourselves.

”I addressed you this morning to inform you that NLC has been prevented from embarking on the nationwide peaceful protests in Maiduguri by the CP.

“It would interest you to know that, after all arrangements were made for the peaceful protests over the economic hardships, i received a distress call from the Police Commissioner that my attention was needed at the Police Headquarters in Maiduguri.

“While I was at the Police Headquarters, the CP informed me that NLC should not lead the protests, considering the peculiar and fragile security situation in the state.

“I, therefore, immediately summoned an emergency meeting with all State Executive Members (SEC) of all unions and affiliates, to discussed extensively and we come to the conclusion that peace to reign, we should address the Press and let the whole world know that we are prevented from embarking on even a kilometer street protest.

“We were also informed that some miscreants want to take advantage of the planned peaceful protests, to wreck havoc within the metropolis and we have no option than to heed to the CP’s directive”, Comrade Inuwa stated.
