BEVERLY HILLS, January 18, (THEWILL) – The Police have debunked reports of alleged plot by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to sell the Nigeria Police ‘Officers Mess’ located at Onikan, Lagos.
The Police in a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, said the facility has degenerated, and shown structural defects. “It, therefore, required a massive renovation or outright rebuilding for the benefit of Police personnel.
“in a bid to restore its lost glory, provide a modern and befitting ‘Officers Mess’ and tackle the defects of the old structure, the Police Management Team took a decision to upgrade the Mess to a world-class edifice.”
The statement explained that “Upon completion, the project which is wholly owned and financed by the Police would improve the aesthetic value of the Onikan waterline, provide one of the best water view facilities on the Lagos Island and serve to improve social interaction between members of the Police Force and the general public.”
While noting that it would have been unnecessary to respond to the misinformation over the development, Mba said there was a need to set the records straight and halt the intended damage to a well-thought-out project.
The IGP, according to Mba, “enjoins Nigerians to disregard the misinformation and cautioned the Press against activities of those who aim to disparage and discredit well-thought-out projects.”
