September 20, (THEWILL) – The Kano State Police Command has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the state to maintain law and order.

The curfew order is contained in a statement issued to newsmen in Kano on Wednesday by the State Police Commissioner, Mohammed Usaini Gumel.

“In view of the Constitutional mandate of the Nigeria Police Force alongside the relevant Internal Security and Law Enforcement Agencies to preserve law and order in the State, the Kano State Police Command has mapped out strategies in that direction and call on the good people of the State to give the necessary confidence and support,” the statement said.

According to the statement, the curfew took effect from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20, to 6 p.m. of Thursday, September 21, warning that violators of the order would “be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.”

The command said security forces had been despatched to the books and crannies, including the exits and entries of the state to ensure enforcement and strict compliance of the curfew order “as communicated by the State Government via letter with Reference No: K/SEC/H/435/T.1/153 dated 20th September, 2023.”

It urged the people of the state to remain law abiding “as it is in the best interest of all that we come together to maintain law and order in the state,” the statement added.

THEWILL reports that the curfew order came few hours after the judgement of the State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which declared Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the APC as the rightful winner of the March 18 governorship election in the state.

The judgement elicited widespread jubilations and special prayers among the APC faithful in the state who thanked God for “the sweet victory” at the Tribunal.
