Police Foil Bank Robbery, Kill Armed Robber In Delta

BEVERLY HILLS, December 23, (THEWILL) – A suspected armed robbery gang member on Monday met his waterloo in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State as he was shot dead in a failed bank robbery incident.

The incident, which took place at a new generation bank along the old Lagos-Asaba road however brought commercial activities in the metropolis to a halt as both passersby and commuters scampered for safety following sporadical gunshots between the armed gang and members of a Joint Military Task Force.

Local sources said the suspected armed robbers had stormed the branch of the bank in two hilux vehicles shooting sporadically as they advance toward the bank.

However, the suspected robbers were said to have been confronted by operatives of the Joint Military Task Force who acted on a tip-off and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel.

In the ensuing gun battle, THEWILL learnt that a member of the gang was shot dead by the security operatives while other members of the gang were said to have escaped.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the incident, said one of the hoodlums was killed during the gun battle, adding that the Police Command has spread out its dragnets to track the fleeing criminals.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested four suspects whose names were given as Uche Otiono, Vincent Uche, Obinna Matthew and Paul Egwom.

They are suspected to be members of a car snatching syndicate terrorising residents of Asaba and its environs.

According to the spokesperson of the state Police Command, Kalu, one Lexus Rx 300 Jeep with registration number AAA 799 DH, one Lexus RX350 Jeep with registration number AAA 571 CY and a Toyota Camry car with registration number AKD 676 DF were recovered from the suspects.

She said the suspects have confessed to the crime of car snatching, adding that efforts were on to trace owners of the recovered vehicles while the suspects were undergoing further investigation.
