September 22, (THEWILL) – Mourners, who converged on the Muri Okunola Park, in Victoria Island, Lagos, for a candlelight procession held on Thursday night, in honour of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, have been allegedly teargassed by security operatives.
Some viral video clips of the incident on social media show mourners running, as smoke from the tear gas rises all around them, with many claiming that policemen at the scene released teargas to chase them away.
Popular comedian Oluwadolarz, who was also at the event, shared a video of him distressed, saying, “They chased us away with teargas. They chased us.”

THEWILL reports that the 27-year-old singer, Mohbad, died on Tuesday, September 12, in Lagos.
A candlelight tribute was held in his honour where fans and celebrities alike came out to celebrate the late singer.
According to THEWILL’s findings, the procession started earlier in the evening at Lekki Phase 1 and the memorial concert began later by 8pm at the Muri Okunola Park.
However, by 11pm, those still carrying on the procession at Lekki began crying out on social media that they were teargassed by the police.
The Lagos State Police Command has not issued any statement on the incident.
