October 06, (THEWILL) – Juventus midfielder, Paul Pogba, is facing a potential four-year ban from football after a secondary analysis of a recent drug test confirmed the presence of elevated levels of testosterone.
The French international was provisionally suspended by Juventus on 11 September following an initial positive test result from a routine doping control conducted after a Serie A match against Udinese in August. At the time, Juventus stated they would consider further procedural steps once additional analysis on the sample was completed.
According to reports monitored by THEWILL, the secondary analysis has now also returned a positive finding. As a result, Juventus are weighing up whether to terminate Pogba’s contract given he is likely to receive a lengthy playing ban from the National Anti-Doping Tribunal. Any ban imposed in Italy would likely be extended worldwide.
If Pogba is found to have intentionally boosted his testosterone, he could face a maximum four-year suspension. However, if ruled an involuntary increase, the ban would be capped at two years. Pogba also has the option of entering a plea bargain to have any provisional suspension reduced by half.
The 29-year-old will likely appeal any ban through the Court of Arbitration for Sport. THEWILL recalls that Pogba re-signed for Juventus this summer on a free transfer after leaving Manchester United.
