July 06, (THEWILL) – Barcelona defender, Gerard Pique, is still recovering from an injury he picked up at the tail end of the previous season even at preseason commences.
An abductor injury forced the seasoned centre back to miss Barcelona’s final four La Liga ties of the 2021/2022 season. However, he returned to their Catalonia training base ahead of schedule to improve his conditioning for the upcoming season.
Pique has not yet joined his teammates for group preseason workouts as he is still not fully despite the tireless efforts of Barca’s medical staff and even after spending the majority of his time in the gym and on the treatment table. The Spaniard’s long-term status at the club is still up in the air, but Barcelona’s coaches anticipate him to re-join the team the following week.

The 35-year-old had in-depth conversations about his position in the team with manager Xavi Hernandez with the Blaugrana still looking for another center-back. Pique has persisted in his belief that he possesses the skills necessary to compete at the highest level, even telling club president Joan Laporta that he will sit any new defenders they decide to bring in.
Nevertheless, Barça has brought in cover for him in the form of Andres Christensen, in part because to his recurring injury problems, especially given that Clement Lenglet is expected to go on loan to Tottenham.
