BEVERLY HILLS, March 10, (THEWILL) – Popular British broadcaster, Piers Morgan, has quit his ‘Good Morning Britain’ job after his controversial statement he made about the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.
The network disclosed this on Tuesday saying that Piers Morgan had informed the organisation of his resignation.
“Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add,” the company’s spokesperson said.
The development is coming after the face-off witnessed in the show on Monday between Morgan and fellow presenter, Alex Beresford.
Morgan, in the show, stated his reservations concerning Meghan’s revelations when she appeared in a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey.
According to Morgan, he “didn’t believe a word” of what Meghan told Oprah during the interview.
“I don’t believe a word she says, Meghan Markle. I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report, and the fact that she fired up this onslaught against our royal family I think is contemptible,” Morgan had said.
However, Beresford, took a different view, saying: “I understand that you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or had one and she cut you off. She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has, but yet you continue to trash her.”
This led to an intense exchange between the two which saw Morgan storm out off set returning about ten minutes later.
THEWILL writes that Morgan’s resignation is coming after he had hosted the show for about six years.
