BEVERLY HILLS, December 29, (THEWILL) – Popular Italian-born naturalised-French fashion designer, Pierre Cardin, is dead at the age of 98.
Family sources disclosed that the designer passed away at the American hospital of Paris in Neuilly-sur-seine on Tuesday.
Also, the French Academy of Fine Arts announced the tragic news on its Twitter page.
“It is with great sadness that the members of the Academy of Fine Arts announce the death of their fellow member Pierre Cardin,” it wrote.
Cyril Barthalois, the academy’s secretary-general, also wrote: “Huge sadness. Equally great joy to have known him, these last 4 years, in this academy where his voice, listened to and respected by his colleagues, carried again and always. Good bye, sir.”
THEWILL writes that Cardin was born in Italy in 1922 but departed for France as a kid.
He established his fashion house in 1950, introducing the signature “bubble dress” in 1954.
