Peter Obi Preaches Borrow-To-Produce In Jos

May 10, (THEWILL) – A former Governor of Anambra State and presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi, has said there is everything wrong with the policy of borrowing to consume, instead of borrowing to produce and reflate the economy.

Obi made this declaration in Jos, when he visited as part of his campaign efforts to the Party’s national delegates ahead of its presidential convention scheduled for May 28 and 29.

The presidential aspirant noted that with the gripping insecurity in the country, citizens, residents, tourists and passersby can no longer travel safely from Abuja to Kaduna, or Jos to Minna, promising that if elected president of Nigeria, the task of restoring security and peace will be both priority and urgency.

Noting that a country suffering high rate of joblessness and unemployment is vulnerable with a high and corresponding number of criminals, he said the path to security and peace lies substantially in food security, employment opportunities, popular welfare and citizen satisfaction.

Agriculture, he said, remains Nigeria’s best bet to economic prosperity and departure from poverty, as he noted that the current contribution of agriculture to the national Gross Domestic product (GDP), is less than its maximum potential.

Saying his administration will move Nigeria to a new level and quality of life by putting production above consumption and expanding the absorbent capacity of the economy, he urged the delegates not to simply vote for candidates, but for the future of their children and the yet to be born generations.
