September 08, (THEWILL) – The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Thursday, passed a vote of confidence on the Iyorchia Ayu-led National Working Committee (NWC), signaling overwhelming support for his leadership.

The request for a motion calling for the vote of confidence was made by Ndudi Elumelu, a House of Representatives member from Delta State, who called on former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, to move the motion immediately.

His motion was supported by Balogun Fulani, another lawmaker, and was immediately followed by a request by Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, asking Adolphus Wabara to put the motion to the members, who responded with an overwhelming chorus of “yea.”

THEWILL earlier reported that former Senate President Wabara was on Thursday, appointed acting Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party following the resignation of Walid Jubrin.

Recall that the aggrieved members of the PDP, led by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, had reportedly called for Ayu’s resignation as part of demands to resolve the post-convention crisis rocking the party.

The Wike-led group had demanded his resignation on the ground that only one section of the country is holding all the top positions of the party.

THEWILL gathered that Ayu’s refusal to quit angered Jibrin, who felt he could sacrifice his position if it will guarantee peace and bring electoral success in 2023.

According to reports, Jubrin had hinted last night that since Ayu Was not ready to go as he had promised immediately after he emerged in 2021 as National Chairman, he would resign for peace to reign in the party.

Ayu, who remained adamant despite the threat from Jubrin, rather defended his position that the party’s NEC should take a decision on him.

No sooner had the NEC meeting begun on Thursday than Jubrin announced his resignation as Chairman of BoT

He told the meeting at its 97th session, “I took this decision based on what I said in the past. I said that all we want is to make sure that Atiku Abubakar becomes the President by all means, and that is why I sincerely decided to step down from the BoT. I discussed this with the candidate and he agreed with me.”
