PDP Governors Never Asked Secondus To Step Down – Dickson

BEVERLY HILLS, January 30, (THEWILL) – At a time when governors elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, were reported to have requested the acting chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus to revert to his earlier position, Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has thrown his weight behind the embattled acting Chairman, insisting that he remains the party’s national chairman.

He stressed that contrary to reports in the media, there are no three chairmen in PDP but only one in the person of the acting national chairman and that is Uche Secondus. He then condemned the recent act of a former presidential aide, Ahmed Gulak, in forcefully declaring himself as chairman of the party.

Speaking through a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, the Bayelsa Governor clarified the position of PDP Governors Forum, saying Secondus was still the Deputy National Chairman of the party.

He added that in the absence of a substantive national chairman, the law of the party backs Secondus to step in in acting capacity until a new chairman emerges.

The governor denied reports of any division in PDP Governors Forum or change in the current leadership of the party even as he asserted that the forum did not at any time nominate anyone as chairman nor requested Uche Secondus to revert to his earlier position of Deputy National Chairman.

He said there were modalities for the emergence of chairman of the party as stated in its constitution and therefore there could not have been any reason to have three chairmen running the party at the same time.

“There can’t be a vacuum and as servants of the law, we must be seen at all times to be people who are duty bound to uphold the law and to do the right things at all times in the eyes of the law,” the Governor stated.
