January 05, (THEWILL) – Social media star, Jake Paul, has signed an exclusive mixed martial arts contract with the Professional Fighters League (PFL), the promotion announced on Thursday.
Paul, who has previously shown promise as a boxer, has a wrestling background and has hinted at a move to MMA for years. In addition to becoming a fighter for the promotion, Paul has also been appointed Head of Fighter Advocacy and will work towards a business model that benefits all top fighters.
In a press release to announce the move, Paul said: “I’ve proven myself in and out of the boxing ring and now I am going to do the same in MMA, and there is no limit to the positive impact I can make on the sport.
“I plan to enter the PFL SmartCage and once again, show the world that anything is possible with hard work and dedication. Outside of the cage, equal fighter pay and advocating for female fighters has been my passion, and I am aligned with PFL to evolve the sport.”
While Paul has called out Nate Diaz, offering him a two-fight deal with one in boxing and one in MMA, PFL founder and Chairman, Donn Davis, praised Paul’s decision to join the PFL, saying, “I can’t wait to see what Jake does as a fighter, creator, and promoter in MMA with PFL.”
