June 25, (THEWILL) – The Patriotic Elders Forum of Nigeria has thrown its weight behind Vice President Kashim Shettima over his stance against the alleged plan by the Sokoto State Government to dethrone the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III.

The Forum expressed its position shortly after its emergency meeting held in Kano on Wednesday.

President of the Forum, Dr. Bature AbdulAziz, in a statement issued after the meeting, said the position taken by the Vice President is the best for the region.

“With Vice President Kashim Shettima as the leader of the north, the region will henceforth be speaking with one voice on matters that affect it, such as the Sokoto Sultanate matter.

“The Vice President’s quick response to the issue of Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III and the speculation surrounding his throne is gladdening and every sensible Northerner should support it,” AbdulAziz said.

He said the Vice President’s actions on urgent matters such as the Sokoto debacle show that the government of President Bola Tinubu is serious about the wellbeing of Nigerian citizens.

“It is clear to us that the government of President Tinubu means well regarding the issues of traditional rulers, and we are one hundred percent behind their positions. We are loyal Elders who believe in the good governance that the Tinubu administration is rendering to Nigerians.

“We, therefore, appeal to all Nigerians to support the position of the Vice President and remain peaceful and prayerful for the continued development of the nation,” he said.
