July 18, (THEWILL) – In a press conference held in Paris, on Tuesday, Tony Estanguet, the Chief Organiser of the upcoming Paris Olympics, acknowledged the difficulties that lie ahead in the final year leading up to the opening ceremony.

Despite recent incidents of rioting and looting in France, Estanguet remained calm and assured the public that security and transport concerns were under control. International Olympic Committee President, Thomas Bach, echoed Estanguet’s sentiments, expressing confidence that the Games would proceed in a peaceful environment.

Estanguet stressed the significance of the upcoming year, stating: “We know that the last year will be decisive, it won’t be simple… It will be a crazy year, a difficult year. But we have to stay calm.” Although violent incidents occurred in areas where Olympic events will be held, Estanguet assured everyone that security measures were in place and not compromised. Bach supported these statements, stating that the riots were unrelated to the Games and that the French support the Olympics.

Addressing concerns over transportation, Estanguet noted that progress was being made, and the allocation of contracts for bus transport for athletes and officials had been completed. While acknowledging there was still work to be done, Estanguet said: “That gives me a lot of satisfaction, even if we still have a lot of work ahead of us.” The first two phases of ticket sales were also reported to be successful, generating one billion euros out of the targeted 1.4 billion euros.

Yet, as the Olympics approach, the organising committee continues to face scrutiny. Recent police raids on their offices and the homes of two officials have led to investigations into awarded contracts and potential conflicts of interest. Estanguet stated that he had no new information but affirmed their cooperation with investigators.
