SAN FRANCISCO, December 05, (THEWILL) – Welsh Wales coach Ryan Giggs will miss Monday’s draw for World Cup qualification in Switzerland, as Rob Page will continue in his caretaker role for the time being.
The Manchester United legend was also absent for all three international games Wales played in November after being arrested on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend at his Manchester home.
Giggs denies all the allegations. He has been re-bailed until Monday, February 1 amid an ongoing Greater Manchester Police investigation.
In his absence, the Welsh Football Association placed Page in interim charge last month as Wales followed up a goalless draw against the United States with wins over the Republic of Ireland and Finland and secured promotion to the top tier of the Nations League. The results also mean they confirm their place in Pot 2 of Monday’s World Cup qualifying draw in Switzerland.
It will be Page’s responsibility to deal with Wales media duties immediately after the draw. The Welsh will be hoping for a favourable group as they seek to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Since 1958, when John “The Gentle Giant” Charles and the Class of 1958 shone in Sweden, Wales have not been at a World Cup. In March 2021, they begin their next attempt to return to the biggest global football event.
Giggs remains in regular contact with Page and the rest of the Wales coaching staff as he did during last month’s camp.
