Osinbajo Lauds Police For Respecting Nigerians’ Rights During Anti-Government Protests

SAN FRANCISCO, February 07, (THEWILL) – The Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday commended the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the entire police force for their professional handling of Monday’s anti-government protests in major cities across the country.

At least three Nigerian cities witnessed hundreds of Nigerians take to the streets on Monday to condemn and seek a timely solution to worsening living conditions in the country, corruption, insecurity and alleged impunity of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration

The protesters also came hard on the present government for failing to address inflation that has seen the prices of food items and other commodities soar out of the reach of the common man.

Osinbajo, in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande reiterated that the government was committed to a “continuous engagement” with the people to explain its policies, receive advice and criticism.

The statement reads in part, “I commend the IG and his officers for handling the protests with professionalism and respect for the rights of citizens.

“We are committed to a continuous engagement with our people to explain government policies, receive advice and criticism.”

The Acting President disclosed that cabinet ministers have so far gone round eight states holding town-hall meetings, adding that there will be more of such meetings in the other states that are yet to be visited.

“With complete focus on improving the economy every day, the recession will soon be history,” Osinbajo assured.
