Osimhen Noncommittal About Renewed Interest From Arsenal

June 15, (THEWILL) – Victor Osimhen of Napoli has hinted that a move to Arsenal is possible, saying that “anything can happen”, amid ongoing transfer rumours.

With Arsenal’s bid for Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus reportedly rejected, as Mikel Arteta attempts to bolster his assault, Arsenal appear to be prioritising a talisman in the summer season. Alexandre Lacazette departed for Lyon and Eddie Nketiah is yet to sign a new contract following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s departure for Barcelona.

Osimhen has resurfaced as a target for the English Premier League club, who are said to have already had a large bid for the Nigerian international turned down by Napoli. He could provide Arteta’s side with a much-needed reference point up top, having scored 14 times in 27 Serie A outings for Luciano Spalletti’s side last season.

Those goals were his most in a single season in Europe’s top five divisions, surpassing the 13 Ligue 1 goals he scored for Lille in 2019/2020, making him the first Nigerian to score in double figures in two consecutive Serie A, seasons as he became the fourth African player to do so in the Italian top flight, following George Weah for Milan, Samuel Eto’o for Inter, and Mohamed Salah for Roma.

Speaking of where he may play next season Osimhen said: “I don’t know my future, I know anything can happen, but now I just want to go on vacation with my family, clear my head and recharge my batteries.”

Arsenal finished fifth in the Premier League, behind arch rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, meaning Arteta’s side will compete in the Europa League next season.
