August 22, (THEWILL) – Victor Osimhen, Min-Jae Kim, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, all shone as Napoli romped to yet another victory, handing Monza a 4-0 defeat, the latter’s second loss of the new Serie A season.
In the matchday two Serie A fixture, Napoli hosted Monza after stumping Hellas Verona 5-2 in the first week. Monza were coming off a 2-1 loss to Torino and were no match for the hosts, who had a great start to the game, with their frontal pressing generating a lot of difficulties for the visitors.
However, the Monza defence had held strong up until Khvicha Kvaratskhelia broke the impasse, curling the ball past Michele Di Gregorio in the Monza goal. Giovanni Stroppa’s team was in even more trouble as a result of Osimhen’s incisive strike, his second in as many matches.
Monza attempted to string together ineffective passes in the second half to create a successful offensive, but Kvaratskhelia took advantage of a careless Monza defence by taking chances, and the 21-year-old Georgian ended up with a well-earned brace on the night.
After a VAR review cancelled out Andrea Petagna goal because he shoved a Napoli defender in the box, Min-jae Kim scored a debut goal to make it 4-0. Napoli earned their first season-opening clean sheet and are temporarily atop the Serie A table.
