August 15, (THEWILL) – Journalists working with TVC, NTA, AIT and other print mediums were saved by the whisker on Monday, in the hands of youths of Opu-Nembe in Nembe local council area of Bayelsa state, as they were subjected to harassment and intimidation during official duties.
The attacks occurred when they were being conducted around the community to see some ruin of buildings destroyed over the tension in the area.
THEWILL gathered that one of the cameramen with TVC, identified as Bina, was roughly beaten and hands tied to his back before he was rescued by some policemen.
Also, all their working equipment including cameras were confiscated by the irate youths, who unleashed Mayhew on them.
A source, who spoke with our correspondent, said for the timely intervention of the police the worst could have happened to them as the youths were out for blood.
“The tension was too much yesterday as the youths were so emboldened and armed all ready for the worst, but thanks to the policemen who rescued us and had to escort us back to Yenagoa around 2 am this morning”, he said.
