OPINION: PRESIDENT BUHARI AS KING CYRUS

GTBCO FOOD DRINL

“This is what Jehovah says, Your Re-purchaser, Who formed you since you were in the womb: “I am Jehovah, who made everything. I stretched out the heavens myself, and I spread out the earth. Who was with me? I am frustrating the signs of the empty talkers, and I am the One who makes diviners act like fools; the One confounding the wise men and turning their knowledge into foolishness; The One making the word of his servant come true and completely fulfilling the perditions of his messengers. The One saying of Jerusalem, ‘She will be inhabited,’ and of the cities of Judah, ‘The will be rebuilt, and I will restore her ruins. ‘The One saying to the deep waters, ‘Be evaporated, and I will dry up all your rivers; The One saying of Cyrus, “He is my shepherd, and he will completely carry out all my will.” The one saying of Jerusalem, ‘She will be rebuilt.’ And of the temple, ‘your foundation will be laid.’” Isaiah 44; 24-28

I have seen the vision of President Buhari’s glory. I understand the rot in the system has brought our dear President to grief. A source very close to the presidency recently informed me that tears came to Buhari’s eyes upon beholding the enormity of the sleaze in the system. But Mr. President: this is the very reason why you came. Yahweh has destined that you will receive glory from this ugly situation. Beyond being tough and principled, PMB is a man of destiny. He is unlike Olusegun Obasanjo; a man whose world is constructed from his delusions of omnipotence. Nigeria will flourish under the current government. God has heard our cry and he has decided to fix our problem. He has chosen PMB as the Cyrus of our time. He is the modern day Cyrus that God will use to rebuild our Nation.

My humble advice to our president is to be careful of the kind of the company he keeps. He should do his best to avoid the company of vagabonds and irresponsible politicians. They have the language of religion; always dropping God’s name. They neither know God nor love him. They don’t love their neighbours. Our holy book tells us that if you don’t love your neighbour, you can’t claim to love God. The advice that Jeremiah gave to Zedekiah will suffice. “The King’s best friends misled him. They overruled him. And now that his feet have sunk in the mud; his friends have left him.” Goodluck Jonathan surrounded him with character invoked from the forest of a thousand demons. They gave him evil counsel and ruined him. PMB should always remember to surround himself with good people no matter how poor or deprived they are. That is the secret to his success.

The fight against corruption will be Buhari’s toughest test. But I have the confidence that he will overcome. Those of us who admire Buhari will always point to his integrity and perfectionist drive. This means that if anyone can figure out what to do in this struggle, PMB is the one. Beyond the fact that he has cemented his status as someone who can play tough, majority of Nigerians are receptive to his declaration of moral purpose. Buhari’s most appealing qualities are his optimism and belief in the power of the Nigerian vision. But this is not to say that the problem at hand will be easy. Nigeria under PDP was badly governed and mismanaged. We had a lot of fools who were calming to be honourable. Government officials were speaking foolishly and thinking up evil things. They refused to take care of the needy and the deprived in the land. They squandered our patrimony with glee.

Part of their wickedness is better captured in President Buhari’s words: “We are now looking for evidences of shipping some of our crude, their destination and where and which accounts where the monies are being kept. When we get as much as we can get as soon as possible, we will approach those countries to freeze those accounts and go to court, prosecute those people and let the accounts be taken to Nigerian. The amount of money is mind-boggling but we have started getting documents where some of the senior people in government, former ministers, some of them had as much as five accounts and were moving about one million barrel per day.” This is why we are suffering. The money that would have been used to beautify the land is in the hands of private individuals. All hands must be on deck to snatch back our Nation from the evil doers who have corrupted it. Nigerians are anxious and jumpy to see that these criminals are brought to justice.

But I am aware that these despicable politicians have only made themselves fat for the day of slaughter. My prayer for President Buhari is that his clothes should be stained with the blood of burglars and criminals and not the blood of the poor and the innocents. I am now of the view that he should take his time to assembly credible men and women that will help him to fight this battle. This is going to be the most vicious war in the history of this nation. I will also close this article with the beautiful verses in Isaiah 32. “Someday there will be a King who rules with integrity and a national leader who govern with justice. Each of them will be like a shelter from the wind and a place to hide from storms. They will be like streams flowing in a desert; like shadow of a giant rock in a barren land. Their eyes and ears will be open to the needs of the people. They will not be impatient any longer, but will act with understanding and will say what they mean.”
