Guehi has committed three errors leading to goals for Manchester City in all competitions this season.

Maresca backed the duo to recover from their mistakes in the League Cup clash against Brighton on Wednesday.

He said: Gigio (Donnarumma), I think, since we started, is doing well. Like any player, like any manager, at some point is making some mistakes.

“But it’s part of the season. Again, they are playing so many games, so many minutes, that sometimes it’s almost impossible to (not) make some mistakes.

“Because in the way he reacts, he’s fantastic, he’s a top guy,” he said. “Again, he’s one of the captains, he’s a leader, and I love Marc, to be honest.

“And again, it’s the same with Gigio — when they make some mistakes, they recognise.”

Man City will face Brighton twice in four days in the League Cup and in the Premier League.

Maresca is looking forward to the encounters, while praising the Seagulls for their impressive start to the season.

He said: “First of all, they are doing very well so both games will be tough.

“They are very brave, aggressive and when they have the ball they attack with so many players.

“They create so many chances. We need to do the right things offensively and defensively.”

The former Chelsea manager confirmed that the likes of Erling Haaland Gianluigi Donnarumma, Elliot Anderson, Josko Gvardiol and captain Ruben Dias will miss the clash.

Maresca concluded: “After the Villa game (last Saturday), we gave five players three days off. Erling, Ruben, Elliot, Gigi and Josko. They are all on holiday. Three days off, energy, go, come back full of energy and then go again.”

Man City have won nine matches in all competitions this season.
