March 12, (THEWILL) – Lens striker Lois Openda made history on Sunday, scoring the fastest hat-trick in Ligue 1 since 1967 in just four minutes and 30 seconds.
Openda’s feat helped his team secure a 4-0 win over Clermont at the Stade Gabriel Montpied. The Belgian international opened the scoring in the 30th minute with a clever finish through the legs of Clermont goalkeeper, Mory Diaw.
Openda then took advantage of a defensive error to double Lens’ lead before completing his hat-trick just 66 seconds later, rounding Diaw and finishing from close range.
The forward did not stop there as he also provided an assist in the second half, setting up Alexis Claude-Maurice to make it 4-0. With this remarkable performance, the 23-year-old has now scored two hat-tricks this season, making him one of the top strikers in the top five European leagues alongside Erling Haaland.
