January 23, (THEWILL) – A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Segun Sowunmi, has urged the leadership of the party to consider giving the presidential ticket to Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, as he is the only one that can win the election for the party.
Sowunmi disclosed this while responding to a rejoinder on the party’s aspirants that should be given the presidential ticket of the main opposition party.
The trio of Abubakar, former Senate President Bukola Saraki and Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State had declared their intention to run for president on the platform of the PDP
But, Sowunmi, while responding to a rejoinder on the party’s aspirants that should be given the presidential ticket of the main opposition party, said that with the political antecedents of the former Vice President he was sure to win the presidential election.
He said neither Tambuwal or Saraki was fit to take over the reins of power from President Muhammadu Bubari, stressing that the PDP would lose the election with anyone of them becoming the party’s presidential candidates in the 2023 general election.
Sowunmi, who described the two stalwarts of the party as “kindergartners,” lampooned them for de-marketing Abubakar as a man not fit for the party’s ticket, accusing them of bringing their states backward as governors.
He said, “My attention was called to the funny mumbo-jumbo that serious-minded people ought not to give a second look save for the fact that it contains the name of Waziri. Atiku Abubakar is the only one that can win the presidential election for the PDP and he should be given the ticket.
“At a more auspicious moment, I will discuss the role of Atiku Abubakar in the political life of a few of those people mentioned, including how one of them got to win a primary election that made him governor of a North-Central state.
“I will equally espouse the schemer-in-chief from the North-West or are we expected to forget quickly how he became Speaker of the House of Representatives and his counterpart became Senate President in the most despicable betrayal of anything decent and the most problematic gambit any nation has ever witnessed in the history of political party organisation.
“It is the absence of anything to show for his governorship of Kwara State that has left Ilorin so backward, compared to states that were created at the same time or even much younger states. Or is it the joke of Sokoto that these fellows and their paymasters want to compare to the experience of a Vice President of the likes of Atiku Abubakar?” he asked.
