April 20, (THEWILL) – The Primary Election Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the November 2024 gubernatorial election in Ondo State has said a total of 171,922 accredited members would vote in the shadow election scheduled for Saturday, April 20.
THEWILL reports that the seven-man committee chaired by Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, will conduct the direct primary election in 203 wards across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State.
Earlier, the Party had cleared 16 aspirants, including incumbent Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and business mogul and Senator representing Ondo South district in the National Assembly, Jimoh Ibrahim, for the election.
The other aspirants include Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Olusola Oke; former President of Nigerian Medical Association, Prof. Francis Faduyile; mechanical engineer, Dr. Funmi Waheed-Adekojo, and APC National Vice Chairman (South West), Isaac Kekemeke.
Others are Dr. Soji Ehinlanwo, Akinfolarin Samuel, Okunjimi Odimayo, Adewale Akinterinwa, Olugbenga Edema, Gen. Ohunyeye Olamide, Morayo Lebi, Garvey Oladiran Iyanjan, and Ifeoluwa Oyedele.
Speaking after a meeting with stakeholders and the aspirants on Friday night in Akure, Secretary of the Ondo Governorship Primary Election Committee of the APC, former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, said none of the aspirants had before the eve of the exercise withdrawn or stepped down.
Omo-Agege, who appealed to the aspirants to caution their supporters to allow the peaceful conduct of the primary, assured of the committee’s resolve to strictly follow the guidelines and constitution of the party and conduct a transparent, fair and credible election.
He said the committee would collaborate with the security agencies in the state to forestall the breakdown of law and order before, during and after the primary.
