January 08, (THEWILL) – In an effort to bring harmony to the squad, Manchester United is set to enforce a de-facto salary cap of £200,000 per week at Old Trafford.
THEWILL recalls that Cristiano Ronaldo was the highest-earning player in the squad with a salary of £385,000 per week before leaving the club in November.
Currently, David de Gea is the highest earner at the club, drawing a weekly salary of £375,000. However, his contract is set to expire at the end of the season. It is reported that de Gea will be offered a new deal, but will have to accept a pay cut in line with the new salary cap policy.
Other senior members of the squad, including Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, and Casemiro, earn between £180,000 and £200,000 per week.
Despite the ongoing financial changes, Manchester United has been in good form since the season resumed following the 2022 World Cup. The team has won all of its last five games and will face Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup third-round tie on January 10.
