September 23, (THEWILL) – The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated Edo State Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okphebolo, on his victory in last Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared APC’s Okphebolo as the winner of Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Edo State.
Okphebolo, according to the commission, polled a total of 291,667 votes to defeat Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who got 247,274 votes and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP), who came third in the race with 22,763 votes.
In a statement by its State Publicity Secretary, Tunde Oladunjoye, on Monday, the ruling party said Okphebolo’s victory at the poll was a testament to the party’s popularity in the state.
“A testimony to the popularity of the party in the state and also to the fact that the winner had given a good account of himself while he served his people in the National Assembly. The victory is also a culmination of the hard work put in by the leaders of our party at the state and national levels.
“It is indeed a sweet victory that Edo State is now back to the Progressives fold where it has always been before the hijack by the now defeated Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Our party rejoices with the good people of Edo and urges the winner to form an inclusive government. We also commend the people of Edo State for their peaceful conduct during the election,” the statement read in part.
