October 26, (THEWILL) – Former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, have expressed condolences to the founder of Christ Embassy and President of LoveWorld Incorporated, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, over the death of his mother, Deaconess Angel Oyakhilome, who died at the age of 88.
In separate condolence messages, the three leaders described the late matriarch as a devoted Christian and mother whose commitment to her family, faith and service to God earned her respect within the Christian community.
They also commiserated with the Oyakhilome family and the Believers’ LoveWorld community, popularly known as LoveWorld, while praying for strength and comfort for the bereaved family.
Obasanjo, in a letter addressed to Pastor Oyakhilome, said he received the news of the death upon his return from an African Union assignment in Kenya and Egypt.
He described the deceased as a remarkable matriarch whose life and motherhood contributed to producing a prominent Christian leader with influence extending beyond Nigeria.
“Upon my return from my African Union assignment in Kenya and Egypt, I was deeply saddened to receive the news of your dear mother’s transition into glory at the age of 88”, the former president stated.
He added that he was commiserating with the cleric, the entire Oyakhilome family and the global LoveWorld community over the loss.
Obasanjo described the late Deaconess Angel, affectionately known as “Big Mummy,” as a respected pillar within the LoveWorld community, where she was cherished for her devotion to the ministry and her maternal influence on numerous believers.
According to him, she remained closely connected to the growth of the ministry until her death, providing guidance and inspiration to members of the Christian community.
The former president also recalled that her marriage to her late husband, Elder Tim E. Oyakhilome, produced seven children, including Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, Reverend Ken Oyakhilome and Pastor Linda Okocha.
While acknowledging the pain caused by her death, Obasanjo urged the family and the LoveWorld community to draw comfort from the life she lived and the legacy she left behind.
“While her departure leaves a massive void, we take solace in the exemplary life she led and the iconic legacy she leaves behind,” he said.
He prayed that God would grant Pastor Oyakhilome, his siblings and other members of the family the strength to bear the loss, adding that the deceased should be granted eternal rest.
Jonathan, in his condolence message, also described Deaconess Angel as a devoted mother whose life was characterised by service to God and humanity, discipline and exemplary conduct.
The former president expressed sympathy with Pastor Oyakhilome, the Oyakhilome family and the Believers’ LoveWorld community, saying the deceased’s life reflected virtue, wisdom and dedication to her family.
“Mama was a devoted mother who lived a life of impact and service to God and humanity. As a mother, her life was one of discipline and exemplary character, embodying virtue and wisdom,” Jonathan stated.
He said her dedication to raising her children was reflected in their achievements and leadership within the Christian community, noting that their influence extended across Nigeria, Africa and other parts of the world.
