September 05, (THEWILL) – The President of the Nigeria Referees Association (NRA), Sanni Zubair, has said that fans of the domestic game should expect fair and improved officiating as the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier League (NPL) season prepares to commence nationwide.
Speaking in an interview on Monday, in Lagos, the retired FIFA-accredited referee reiterated the association’s commitment to correcting and sanctioning underperforming match officials.
“Expect lots of upsets, expect lots of away victories. This season will build on the success of the 2022/2023 league season. With immense support from all quarters, we’re ready.
“We’ll achieve more victories this campaign under the leadership of the newly formed League Management Company (LMC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
“For the past 10 days we’ve been working with referees and assessors, getting them reacquainted with the technicalities and new laws of the game,” the NRA President said.
The 2023/2024 NPFL season is scheduled to kick off on September 9, 2023. According to the NPL, only one match will be played as the curtain raiser fixture for the new season on the day, between Shooting Stars of Ibadan and Plateau United at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.
