July 11, (THEWILL) – There is not a player capable of standing between Novak Djokovic and victory as the imperial world number one entered the history books by claiming a record-equalling 20th Grand Slam title with a four-set 6-7 6-4 6-4 6-3 victory over Italian Matteo Berrettini on Sunday in SW19.

Djokovic’s win drew him level with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at the summit of men’s tennis, where the trio have dominated proceedings even in the emergence of younger, hungrier and determined players.

The Serb recovered from losing a tightly-fought first set to defeat the seventh seed and successfully defend his 2019 title at the All England Club competition and in front of a packed crowd, applauding all the way.

As this is Djokovic’s sixth Wimbledon crown overall, the highest ranked player in the world is well on course for a calendar Golden Slam after only claiming his double Grand Slam tally when he beat Rafa Nadal at Roland Garros in the previous major.

However, with the Australian Open and the French Open in the bag, Wimbledon’s addition leaves only the US Open outside the grasp of the unflappable Djokovic and there is no logic in thinking he will be stopped from adding it to his growing collection and inching ahead of the Slam total of his closest rivals.

Before that, the 34-year-old will turn his attention to the Olympics in Tokyo. There again, the world number one is the hot favourite to claim the gold medal, which will be the perfect preparation for August and the final major of the year at the US Open.
