July 31, (THEWILL) – Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, on Sunday, hosted some governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other stakeholders in the party to a crucial closed-door meeting at the Rivers Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

The meeting, THEWILL gathered, was part of efforts to resolve the post-presidential primary crisis which has seen the party divided into two major camps

Those at the meeting included Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state, and Governor of Enugu state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
Others were former governor of Cross River state, Donald Duke, former governor of some Benue state, Gabriel Suswam, former Ondo state governor, Olusegun Mimiko, former Bayelsa state governor, Seriake Dickson, Ibrahim Idris of Kogi state, and former Plateau state governor, Jonah Jang.

Prof. Jerry Gana, Kano PDP governorship candidate, and Mohammed Abacha, among other PDP chieftains, were also at the meeting, which commenced at about 4:30 pm at the Rivers Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

Briefing newsmen at the end of the meeting, professor Gana said the meeting looked at the festering crisis over the PDP Presidential primary and other issues.

He said the PDP Governors, including Governor Wike, have resolved to work together for the success of the party in the 2023 general elections.

The Governors, who pledged support for the party, assured that none would defect to any other party.

THEWILL gathered that the resolution to forge ahead for the victory of the PDP in 2023, however, came with some pre-conditions from Governor Wike.

One of the conditions, according to a confidential source at the meeting, was that former Vice President Atiku must lead peace talks with aggrieved members especially, with Wike, rather than through emissaries.

The meeting also called for balance in the leadership structure of the party since its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has emerged from the north.
