NLC Protest Ends Peacefully In Kano

February 27, (THEWILL) – The nationwide protest embarked upon by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), against the current economic hardships in the country, ended peacefully on day one in Kano State.

Officials of the NLC, who led the protests, as well as residents of the state capital, conducted themselves peacefully during the event.

The labour leaders, who converged on the Kano Race Course, to kick-start the protests, rallied through Lodge Road and terminated at the Government House, where they were received by the Head of Service of the State, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa.

During the event, the Chairman of the state branch of the NLC, Alhaji Kabiru Inuwa, reiterated the union’s commitment to the people’s well-being.

Inuwa also expressed confidence in NLC’s cause, adding that “NLC is for the interest of the people.”

He stressed the importance of listening to the people’s voice, aligning President Bola Tinubu with democratic principles.

“We know that president Bola Tinubu is a Democrat and democracy is about listening to the people.

“We are not against him. He is our president, we respect him but let him allow the poor to breathe”, he said.

The chairman decried the economic hardships being faced by the people.

He explained that the protest was not a personal attack but a call for action to alleviate the sufferings of the people.

He called on Governor Abba Yusuf to urge the president to help the people.

Receiving the union leaders, the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, said: “We have received your letter and the governor will handover the letter to Mr President and something will be done to attend to your request.”

Musa commended the peaceful conduct of the protest and also lauded the security agencies for maintaining law and order all through the protest.

Our Correspondent reports that the protest which was observed under heavy security, recorded a low turnout of residents of the state capital.
