May 1, (THEWILL) – Nigerian Under-20 defender Benjamin Frederick has completed a permanent transfer to English Premier League club Brentford from Kaduna-based Simoiben Football Academy. The 18-year-old centre-back initially joined the Bees on loan last summer with an option to buy, which has now been exercised.
Frederick attracted interest from top European clubs like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and FC Porto before opting for a move to Brentford. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the youngster has signed a four-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2028. He links up with compatriot Frank Onyeka at the West London side.
Despite his tender age, Frederick has already gained valuable experience training with Brentford’s first team. He was an unused substitute in EPL matches against Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as an FA Cup tie versus Wolverhampton Wanderers. The defender will initially continue his development with the club’s B team.
“Signing permanently for Brentford is a great moment for me and my family”, Frederick said after completing the transfer. “I want to repay the club’s trust by continuing to work hard and pushing to greater heights.” The young Nigerian starred at last year’s U20 World Cup, featuring in six matches for the Flying Eagles.
Brentford have high hopes for their new acquisition, who rejected overtures from some of Europe’s biggest clubs to pursue his EPL dream. Frederick will be keen to follow in the footsteps of fellow Nigerians, who have graced England’s top flight and made a name for themselves.
