August 16, (THEWILL) – Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has urged Nigerians to bear with the current administration of President Bola Tinubu, over the hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy.
The governor equally said that the country would have gone bankrupt if the president had not remove the fuel subsidy immediately he assumed office on May 29.
He, however, appealed to citizens to remain patient with the federal government as the fuel subsidy removal was a burden the country could no longer put up with, expressing hope that there would be light at the end of the tunnel
Abiodun made this known during an unscheduled visit to the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun state council, Tuesday.
He stressed that the Bola Tinubu-led administration is working diligently and doing everything within its power to fulfil all promises enshrined in its manifesto of renewed hope for Nigeria
The governor, who charged Nigerians, especially the people of the state to be tolerant and remain calm in the face of current economic hardship, said that Tinubu’s efforts in the convergence of Naira to dollar exchange rate would also yield a positive results.
“I also want to through you plead to all of us to continue to be very patient, not just with this present administration, but with the Federal Government.
“The Federal government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is doing everything he can to fulfill everything as encapsulated in the Renewed hope manifesto.
“As we all witnessed the President hits the ground running the day he was inaugurated. He removed subsidy and deregulated the price on petrol.
“This was a burden that the country could no longer shoulder. Had we continued, this country would have been totally bankrupt.
“Not only did he do that, he quickly followed through by ensuring the convergence of naira to dollar exchange rate”, he added
Abiodun, while interacting with the state members of NUJ, admonished them to be professional and patriotic in discharging their duties as the watchdog of the society to build a better nation.
He said, “I want to commend your consciousness for professionalism, by being objective and patriotic in your reportage with focus of building a strong socio-economic bridge for our dear state and for the coming generations.
“As you all know, our state and the country at large are in dire need of systemic media space that is progressive in orientation and developmental in thinking, for the purpose of creating investment-friendly image”, he added
Earlier, the State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, commended the governor for his visit, while urging him to ensure that his media team are thorough-bred professionals.
