October 30, (THEWILL) – President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with President Yoon Suk-yeol, the Government and the people of the Republic of South Korea, as well as families of victims of the tragic incident at Itaewon in Seoul district.
THEWILL reports that over 150 people were killed Saturday, and some 150 injured in a horrific stampede in central Seoul, when a large crowd celebrating Halloween crammed into a narrow street.
The stampede took place near the Hamilton Hotel in the nightlife district of Itaewon, where a large number of people entered a narrow alley near the hotel.
Fire Department official, Choi Seong-beom, had said the stampede occurred around 10:00 pm (1300 GMT) and many of the victims were trampled to death.
While reacting to the incident, President Buhari in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured, healing and comfort to the entire nation as they grieve the heart-breaking loss of over 150 victims, mostly teenagers and people in their twenties.
He assured President Yoon that Nigeria stands with the people of Korea at this difficult and trying moment.
