BEVERLY HILLS, December 10, (THEWILL) – President Goodluck Jonathan has been formally adopted as the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a well-attended two-day convention of the party at the Eagle Square in Abuja, the oil-rich nation’s capital.
President Jonathan also announced that he would be seeking re-election with Vice President Namadi Sambo as running mate.
The party also voted to amend its constitution and ratified the election of Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu as its national chairman.
As at the time of this report, the Presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s main opposition, was still ongoing in Lagos.
The main contenders for the ticket are former military head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
The Presidential election has been slated for February 14, 2015.
