BEVERLY HILLS, November 05, (THEWILL) – With barely three months to the general elections the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has taken a toll on the party as Chief Segun Osoba, a former Governor of the state; Mr. Segun Adesegun, the current Deputy Governor; as well as all three Senators and six members of the House of Representatives representing the state at the National Assembly have decamped from the party to the Social Democratic Party (PDP).
A news report in The Punch newspaper, one of Nigeria’s leading dailies, said two of the defecting senators confirmed their defection from the APC to the SDP though a formal public declaration to that effect has not taken place.
The defecting Senators according to the news report are Senators Adegbenga Kaka, Gbenga Obadara and Akin Odunsi, representing Ogun East, Ogun Central and Ogun West respectively, while those at the House of Representatives are Honourables Kunle Adeyemi, Babatunde Olabode, Olumide Osoba, Abiodun Abudu, Odeleye Kehinde and Bukunola Buraimo.
The paper said Senator Kaka and Senator Obadara confirmed the defection of the politicians during separate telephone interviews with its reporters.
“Yes, I am in the SDP. But it has not been made formal; we are in the process of making it formal. In fact, all the senators and members of the House of Representatives are also in the SDP,” Obadara told the paper.
Deputy Governor Adesugun also told the newspaper that he would follow “his leader” Osoba to any political party.
Osoba and current state Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosu have been engulfed in a very bitter political battle over the composition and control of the APC state Executive. The party structure is presently in the control of Governor Amosu.
