September 30, (THEWILL) – A former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to take the forthcoming independence celebrations to reflect on the problems facing the country.
Speaking during a thanksgiving service on Thursday for his safe return from a medical trip abroad, George said the president should endeavour to find the root of the problems facing the country and fix them.
“We should not pretend that Nigeria has reached Eldorado. The cacophony of voices on which region should produce the next president shows that all is not well in the country,” he said.
He said there is the need to ask the questions to know if Nigeria is moving in the right direction or not.
He said, “Are we heading in the right direction, should we continue that way?We are still fighting the tribal interest, I need to appeal to President Buhari to bring Nigeria together.”
He said though, zoning is not entrenched in the Constitution, it is an agreement reached among politicians to give every geo-political zone a sense of belonging.
“Zoning is a workable arrangement to ensure all Nigerians are given recognition,” George said.
