August 28, (THEWILL) — The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) closed the week on a positive note on Friday, as renewed buying interest lifted the benchmark index and market capitalisation.
The NGX All-Share Index opened at 239,156.09 points and rose by 2,142.38 points to close at 241,298.47 points, representing a 0.90 percent gain.
Similarly, market capitalisation increased from N154.442 trillion at the opening to N155.825 trillion at the close, adding approximately N1.383 trillion to investors’ wealth.
Market breadth also improved considerably, with 33 equities recording price gains against 19 decliners, indicating stronger buying activity during the session.

Seplat leads gainers
- Seplat Energy Plc emerged as the best-performing stock, gaining 10.00 percent (from N11,200.60 to N12,320.60).
- Transcorp Hotels Plc followed with a 9.76 percent increase (rising from N241.90 to N265.50).
- Omatek Ventures Plc advanced 9.49 percent (from N1.37 to N1.50).
- Daar Communications Plc gained 9.42 percent (moving from N1.38 to N1.51).
- UPL Plc completed the top five gainers (appreciating 8.57 percent from N5.25 to N5.70).

TotalEnergies leads decliners
- On the decliners’ side, TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc recorded the largest loss, shedding 10.00 percent (from N640.00 to N576.00).
- Haldane McCall Plc declined 8.78 percent (falling from N4.10 to N3.74).
- eTranzact International Plc lost 8.62 percent (moving from N14.50 to N13.25).
- Austin Laz & Company Plc dropped 7.41 percent (from N2.70 to N2.50).
- Ava Capital Plc rounded off the top five decliners, falling 7.14 percent (from N7.00 to N6.50).
The session’s positive market breadth provided additional support for the benchmark’s advance, reversing some of the weakness recorded in previous sessions.
Among the major stocks that closed unchanged were Dangote Cement Plc, Okomu Oil Plc, Livestock Feeds Plc, UPDC Plc and Champion Breweries Plc, alongside others.
The Friday performance leaves the market with a stronger close, as gains in major stocks, particularly Seplat Energy, combined with broader buying interest to lift both the ASI and overall market value.
