November 25, (THEWILL) – Neymar will have his ankle scanned after suffering a knock during Thursday’s World Cup victory over Serbia.
Brazil won their opening match 2-0 over Serbia courtesy of a brace from Richarlison, one of which featured an incredible overhead kick that is being touted as contender for goal of Qatar 2022.
Although Brazil had a winning start, there was concern about Neymar’s condition, and he had to be replaced by Antony in the 79th minute after Nikola Milenkovic challenge keep left the Paris Saint-Germain forward with a hurt ankle.
Neymar was later seen with ice taped to his ankle and appeared to be in pain as some of his teammates tried to comfort him. The Brazilian team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said: “Neymar had an injury on the right ankle, direct trauma.
“Due to the shock that he had with the knee of the Serbian player, we started immediately the treatment on the bench. He continued with the treatment with the physiotherapy. We need 24-48 hours to have a better understanding through the MRI. Tomorrow we will have a new assessment. Now we need to wait, we cannot make any premature comments on his evolution. We need to wait.”
