March 08, (THEWILL) – Newcastle United have emerged as the latest contender to join Liverpool in the race for Chelsea’s attacking midfielder, Mason Mount.
With the 24-year-old’s current contract set to expire in 2024, the negotiations between his representatives and the club have hit a deadlock. Chelsea are reportedly looking to sell Mount this summer to avoid losing him for free when his contract ends.
The Stamford Bridge club is determined not to lose Mount for nothing when his deal runs out and with a contract extension far from being agreed this summer, they are looking to make some money back from an outright sale.
While Liverpool has shown a keen interest in signing the midfielder, it seems Newcastle has an upper hand in the hunt for Mount. Yet, Chelsea’s decision to sell Mount has garnered attention from other EPL sides like Manchester United, Manchester City, and top European clubs like Juventus, who are also believed to be interested in signing the 36-cap international.
With the transfer market heating up, it remains to be seen which club will emerge victorious in the pursuit of the highly-talented midfielder.
