Newcastle In Pole Position To Secure Gordon Transfer From Everton

January 25, (THEWILL) – Newcastle United is said to be in “pole position” to secure the transfer of Everton forward, Anthony Gordon, before the end of January.

The 21-year-old has been with Everton since joining the club as an 11-year-old in 2012 and broke into the first team last season with 25 starts among his 35 Premier League appearances. Despite a strong start to the season, with Gordon scoring in back-to-back matches in August, his performance has dropped off in recent months, with the young forward finding the back of the net just once in his past 11 league fixtures.

Everton are resolved to hold firm at £ 50 million as their asking price for Gordon’s transfer, with his contract tying him to the club until 2025. Despite Gordon’s recent lack of success on the field, the young Englishman still has his fans and carries a hefty price tag.

It remains to be seen if the new Everton manager will feature Gordon prominently, but if not, the transfer could provide the club with some much-needed spending power and flexibility. The transfer speculation has been building in recent days, with Gordon reportedly missing training on Tuesday, as the transfer rumours continue to swirl.

With Newcastle said to be in the lead for Gordon’s signature, it will be interesting to see if any other clubs make a move for the young forward before the transfer window closes.
