August 24, (THEWILL) – Newcastle United and Real Sociedad have reached a club-record agreement for Swedish attacker, Alexander Isak.

Since July, Newcastle have shown interest in Isak, but Sociedad were determined to keep him beyond this summer until the English club met their asking price. The Basque club has now approved a deal worth £59 million plus €5 million in add-ons and 10% sell-on fee.

Isak’s contract featured a £76 million release clause, but La Real decided Newcastle’s offer was too excellent to pass up. Reportedly, Newcastle is working within a budget and getting Isak was part of their summer-long plan to sign another striker.

Callum Wilson, the current number nine for Newcastle, has had a strong start to the season, but injuries have always been a concern, and he has already developed a hamstring issue.

After a successful start to the new season, including a 3-3 draw with champions Manchester City on Sunday, Eddie Howe has now approved the signing of Isak, a player he has liked since taking over as manager last year. Isak will now join Newcastle as they look to build on their recent success with a few more possible transfers before the window shuts.
