November 09, ,(THEWILL) Ime Udoka, the Boston Celtics’ suspended head coach, was apparently a candidate for the Brooklyn Nets’ open head coaching position after ex-coach Steve Nash was sacked.
However, a variety of factors caused the Nets to select Jacque Vaughn, Nash’s assistant, over Udoka for the position.
There were a number of reasons behind the move by the Nets not to hire Udoka as originally planned. These factors include the fact that the Nets’ investigation and due diligence process into the suspended coach took longer than anticipated.
In addition to that is the wild outcry that followed the announcement of their plan to those inside and outside the team. Another factor considered by the management was their short- and long-term uncertainty surrounding the team’s ability to compete in the Eastern Conference as a result of Kyrie Irving’s indefinite suspension.
All these put together dovetailed into the decision by team management to go with Vaughn instead of Udoka and time will tell whether that was a sound decision or otherwise.
